Kate Molton Award - April 2024

Kate Molton Award – April 2024

Our April Award goes to a well deserving Janitor at Wesleyan Assurance, Birmingham.

Regional Director, Lez Nortcliff nominated Jahangir as since he has worked for bespoke (July 2019), he has never had a days illness or let us down, he is so committed and is always on time and presentable.  Jahangir is well respected by the clients and recently received a thank you for assisting a client.  Also, recently he went above and beyond clearing away empty drinks cans and alerting us to a possible fire hazard.  His litter picking job is not easy as it is clearing the underground garages/storage areas, plus surrounding walkways and paths.  He works in all weathers without complaint, is always polite and accommodating.  The garage areas are always spotless and Lez cannot thank or praise him enough for his continued hard work.

Jahangir wins £100 of High Street vouchers, a smart quilted jacket, and one of our prestigious glass awards.  Congratulations Jahangir.

Kate Molton Award – February 2024

Rachael Huggins, Cleaning Supervisor at one of our sites in Tewkesbury was our clear winner for our February Kate Molton Award.  Nominated by Area Manager Holly Griffiths because she is such a dedicated member of staff.

Rachael worked beyond her hours to make sure the site was covered through times of the recent floods.  Our client also recognised Rachael saying:

“Exceptional dedication and commitment.  Tewkesbury pretty much became an island due to flooding and unfortunately parts of Rachael’s property were flooded.  After making sure her animals were all safe, she waded through the flood water and still came into work to fulfil her cleaning duties, she really didn’t need to do that, a lot of others wouldn’t.  Rachael went way above and beyond to fulfil her role, her house was surrounded and the water rising.

Rachael is committed to her team and maintains a high standard even in difficult times, I believe Rachael’s efforts deserve recognition and I highly recommend her for outstanding service”.

Rachael wins £100 of High Street vouchers, a smart quilted jacket, and one of our prestigious glass awards.  Congratulations Rachael!

bespoke 'Plant A Tree' at The Highcrest Academy'

bespoke ‘Plant A Tree’ at The Highcrest Academy

As part of bespoke’s project to help the UK to become carbon neutral, Katerina Froude, Senior Area Manager helped Martyn Drewitt Facilities Manager at The Highcrest Academy plant their tree at the school.

This may only be a small step but by actively involving each member of our cleaning team, we are encouraging environmental awareness which hopefully will be cascaded through their own actions when away from bespoke. bespoke CUBS clean up!

Plastic waste in our oceans and washing up on our beaches in the Uk and indeed around the world is big news at the moment. It’s estimated that 12 million tons of plastic is dumped into the world’s oceans every year. 76% of the 8,300 million tonnes of plastic produced between the 1920’s and 2015 became waste with only 9% of that being recycled at the time.   Countless Wildlife including fish, seabirds, turtles, dolphins, whales, and other marine life are killed each year by mistaking plastics for food or by getting entangled in discarded fishing gear. This tide of plastic pollution washes up with the tide on our beaches every day and is an eyesore to those who use the beach for leisure activities such as walking, swimming, surfing, kayaking etc.

So, at bespoke we wanted to take positive action and do our bit to help with this increasing problem.  This year we organised our own beach clean in conjunction with Surfers Against Sewage, the environmental charity.  As a keen surfer and paddleboarder, our HSEQ Director Brian Ramsay has been a member of Surfers Against Sewage since its inception in 1990 and provided the link between the two organizations. Our group was named the bespoke CUBS, (bespoke Clean Up Britain).

Despite the cold weather, on Friday the 12th January a team if nine bespoke Head Office staff and Operational Managers led by our Managing Director, Jackie Woodall, gathered at Sand Bay near Weston-Super-Mare at 9am and after a quick safety briefing, armed with the SAS bags for life and  litter pickers we set off to collect as much rubbish and waste as we could.

The amount of waste on the beach was astounding, everything from discarded walking poles to coke cans, McDonalds packaging, glass and plastic bottles, old training shoes, were collected. We walked a two mile stretch of beach over the three hours and when we had finished, we weighed what had been collected and found we had picked up a whopping 43kg of waste. Jackie donated a bottle of champagne for the person who collected the greatest weight in rubbish. This was won by bespoke Contract Manager, Josh Abrahams who managed to gather over 10kg of waste, great effort Josh!!!

All in all, the day was an enormous success with the bespoke CUBS doing their part to fight ocean pollution and cleaning up our local natural environment, whilst getting out on the fresh air and taking part in some teambuilding. Numerous members of the public out taking in the sea views and walking their dogs came over and handed us rubbish and   thanked us for what we were doing which made it all worthwhile.

Beach cleaning is hungry work, so the bespoke CUBS were treated to Fish & Chips as a reward for their hard work. More cleans are planned for the future, with the next one taking place in the West Midlands where we plan to clean canal paths.

Watch this space, the CUBS will be out again!    https://www.sas.org.uk/

The Kate Molton Award

Kate Molton
Kate Molton Award employee of the month scheme.

During 2023 we launched an employee recognition scheme The Kate Molton Award, in memory of our beloved colleague Kate Molton, who passed away in January 2023. We, as a company, wish for the memory of Kate to continue as she was a big part of bespoke and is sorely missed. This scheme will allow Kate’s memory to live on.

In a hugely emotional night, we held our inaugural award ceremony at the Tortworth Court Hotel.  All 2023 monthly winners were invited to our Christmas party along with members of Kate’s family.  Every winner was so deserving, but after much deliberation the Employee of the Year and the winner of the Kate Molton Award was Monique Williams, Contract Manager at Newport Campus, Coleg Gwent.
As well as the prestigious award and trophy, Monique also won £1,000 in High Street Vouchers.

A huge congratulations and thanks to Monique!!
